Comforter-in-Chief

True Leadership. Of the many duties the President of the United States is called upon one is that of "Comforter-in-Chief ". Almost inevitably every President must face a national tragedy and must lead the nation through it.  Those we remember most are Reagan's Challenger Disaster, Clinton's Oklahoma City, and Bush's 9/11. It's not the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Presidential duties, but it is a duty we should be more mindful of.

Obama's call came on January 8th when Congress Woman  Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords was shot and 13 people were injured and 6 others were killed. In his role of "Comforter-in-Chief " Obama was a complete failure turning what was supposed to be a memorial service for the victims on the 12th into what was more like a pep rally and a campaign event including cheering, applause and t-shirts.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry today participated in the Presidential Thanksgiving Family Forum, hosted by the Family Leader, where he reiterated his principled and longstanding commitment to conservative values.

“I am a faithful, fiscal and social conservative of conviction, not of convenience,” said Gov. Perry. “As Governor of the State of Texas, I have signed more pro-life legislation than any governor in my state’s history and championed and signed the Texas Defense of Marriage Act. Traditional family values are important to me, to the people of Iowa and to citizens and future of our nation. America needs to reenergize limited government, entrepreneurship and the traditional values that helped us become the greatest, most prosperous nation in history.”

But the most telling moments from tonight's forum was not so much the personal stories of those participating or their testimony of faith, but was the actions of faith that occurred there. Twice during the forum two candidates became emotional during their testimonies, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain. Both men at some point in the campaign have attacked Governor Perry on a personal level. Cain has gone overboard by trying to deflect his personal scandals by attempting to blame Perry and members of Perry's Campaign staff for "orchestrating the scandals". Yet both times tonight we saw that it was Governor Perry who reached out to comfort these two men in acts that showed the Governor's faith rather than speaking of his faith. That is true Leadership. We know through experience that at some point during the next term the President will be called to once again serve as "Comforter-in-Chief", we don't need another pep rally.

  1. As a Comforter in Cheif...Governor has done so many times. I read a blog last week...written by a father of one of our fallen hero's. This son's name I only recall his middle...Haskell...because it is the name of the county Governor was born and raised in. This man said he had gotten the tragic news from the military...he was sitting all forelorn when the phone rang...on the other end was Governor Perry...he left the man with his personal cell saying to call if the family needed anything. This father wrote of a time then a year later...he attended a fundraiser for Governor running again. He said he told Governor his name and asked if he remembered him...Governor right away remembered all...even all of his late son's name...and took the man to a corner of the room and talked with him at length...the man said Governor listened to all he told about his son...and this father also said that Governor took the time for him...giving honor to his son's memory...not thinking like so many other politicians...about his own greedy, power hungry self. Governor is one of us...he is a true leader of we the people.

Another story is of Marcus Luttrell...Lone Survivor of a failed Navy Seal mission...all accounted for in his book, Lone Survivor, available at Amazon...Governor had given Marcus his personal cell number too...and when thugs shot the dog that Marcus was given at Walter Reid Hospital in his back yard...Marcus called Governor...and the Ranger's caught the thugs and they ended up in jail. When Ms. Anita and Governor talked with the family about their decision to get in the race...Marcus was there...and he voiced his concern about Ms. Anita having to endure so much...He is very protective of her.

And there is the story of Tiffany...cannot recall her last name right now...but the wife who survived the shooting on Falcon Lake...her hubby killed by the drug cartel. When Tiffany wanted her hubbies body recovered...it was Governor who stepped up to console her and deal with Mexico. Of course that Mexican investigator did not fare at all from that ordeal, but Governor at least tried all he could.

Let's not forget all that have been devastated in Hurricanes, fires and floods in our state...Governor has been great with those too...and that he is also who Israel turned to this year to stop the Freedom Flortilla from harrassing them...Governor got it done.

These are more reasons why I know the best we can all get behind for President 2012 is Perry...we have not seen such a great and honest leader in our lifetimes. Great article...carry on!
